- Hyphen

For main usage of the hyphen see the Starter Level. The following describes a further use.

Instead of a comma or semicolon

You can use a hyphen between two parts of a sentence, where there is no joining word between them.

Example

Going to the cinema is very popular - indeed it is becoming more popular.
